Yellow Heart
By: Isabelle Morgan
When I turn my head,
When I look away
Parting my lips,
Just choosing how to word
What my laugh meant to say
I have swallowed the roots
And my throat knows the way
To the one muscle that won’t overthink
And will let this secret
Be another plant I have to maintain
Until the branches start to grow through my chest
exposing the leaves in the day
I will just have to wait
For a cloud to be open
And share some of their rain
But what if this drought decides my heart
Is a great place to test your seed's strength?
Who or where do I pray?
No god in the title
I hold life far from the Bible
For I know the trees to be green
And in that book
They are painted red and made ashamed
But I have this feeling
That my eyes fail to convey
I guess I just believe in my body
And I laugh because in my heart
Pain and love grow the same
